Default Dealing elemental damage

For weapon like bow, sword ,axe ,and hammer in general when upgrade to deal elemental damage, is there one type of elemental damage do more damage over to other elemental damage? Also is cold damage deal less damage than fire damage? because everytime when I'm fighting against titans someone in my group always ask ranger to bring Winter. Winter change all elemental damage to cold damage instead. I am thinking I still take elemental damage anyway so what different does it make between taking cold damage or fire damage from the titans? The amount of damage I received is still the same though. Isn't it?

It depends on the monster. Cold damage won't make you do more damage against Titans, for example, BUT fire damage will do less, because they're resistant. Think how a ranger has Drakescale armour... gives extra vs fire dmg. Means someone hits me with fire, they're gonna do a few points less of damage, but hit me with physical/cold/earth/whatever they're gonna do the normal damage.

And e.g. in Shiverpeaks some form of fire is usually nice (melt those Ice Golems )

Default May also be a Necro in your group

I am sure this is not always the case but in many cases a Necro will ask a ranger to bring winter becuase they will cast Spinal Shivers (Description: For 10...40 seconds, whenever target foe is struck for cold damage while using a skill, that foe is interrupted, and you lose 10...5 Energy or Spinal Shivers ends. ) which makes it almost impossible for a caster to cast anything at all. Or a monk to get off any healing or that dang Mark of Protection

Not quite true. Some monsters do have elemental resistances, and some have elemental weaknesses as well. It's not so much limited to elements as it is to damage type. I tested some stuff briefly quite a while back, but since I'm a pack-rat I still have my old notes and results from it.

Titans have resistance against fire damage such that they take approximately half damage from fire. They also have a weakness towards cold damage such that they take around 40% extra damage from cold. Anything that's not cold and not fire will do normal damage to them; however, since they like to throw up Greater Conflagration it's very helpful to have a Winter around to counter it.

As far as resistances/weaknesses being by damage type rather than just elemental type, you can look at the Skeleton Archers outside of Bergen Hot Springs, or any plant-type enemy. The Skeleton Archers will take extra damage from blunt damage, but less damage from piercing. Plant enemies will take double damage from either slashing or fire damage.
